COW BOOKS Reading Jacket Navy/White
from Mountain Research
Founded in 2002, COW BOOKS is the collaborative retail concept of Japanese book critic Yataro Matsuura and Mountain Research designer Setsumasa Kobayashi. COW BOOKS specializes in rare and out-of-print art and literature titles focusing on 1960's and 70s social movements, progressive politics, protest, the Beat Generation, and first editions of forgotten modern authors among other offerings. In addition to a stellar selection of printed matter, they are known for their quirky in-house product line of book-related clothing and home goods.
the COW BOOKS Reading Jacket in Navy and White is their take on the classic Japanese Kimono form done up with a literary twist. Constructed from an exquisite custom-milled striped fabric produced by MIYATA Weaving Co. expressly for COW BOOKS, the Reading Jacket offers a comfortable relaxed silhouette with large interior pockets designed to store books and magazines of varying size, and is embellished with elaborate chain-stitched embroidery on the back.
As with all Mountain Research garments, the unique patterning and quirky detailing is matched by impeccable construction throughout. Two carefully concealed exterior side pockets are joined by two large drop pockets on the interior. The back of the jacket showcases the shop's name, motto, and location embroidered in some of the most finely-executed chain-stitching we've ever seen. The jacket is finished with a tied kimono-style closure at the front, and features a COW BOOKS logo tag at the interior collar. A stunning piece for the brand fanatic or new convert alike that is perfect for indoor or outdoor use and creative styling.
