Marina Cap Mid Blue Woad Dye

from Arpenteur

The Arpenteur Marina Cap in Mid Blue Woad Dye is a light, flexible fair-weather sailing hat. It is made of a durable lightweight cotton gabardine fabric and is easily folded to store in a pocket, bag, or otherwise. Its elasticated back ensures a comfortable and precise fit.

This season's Arpenteur Marina Cap is one of many styles hand-dyed with pastel blue vegetable dye. The pastel blue pigment is derived from the leaves of Isatis Tinctoria, a plant which grows in the Southwest of France. This item was soaked by hand in several successive dye baths, which mainly consist of pastel blue pigments and warm water. This dyeing process requires a lot of time and precision to obtain its exceptional bright colors, which are impossible to achieve with synthetic dyes. It is an art only very few craftsmen still master.

Like all naturally hand-dyed items, variations from piece-to-piece are unavoidable, and while everything has been done to prevent it, some dye migration is possible.
